Visual Thinking: Final Publication

This evening I finally completed my final publication! I have made 3 posters which display an instagram-style layout, all completely hand drawn, with 3 hand drawn 'photos'. The 'photos' were taken from sketches in my sketchbook which I coloured on photoshop. The Instagram layout was also done on photoshop, but was drawn loosely to give it a hand-made feel.

My final publication supports my essay, it relates to my questions about illustrators and how they document their work on instagram. The three sketches I chose based on the fact that they are scenes commonly documented on instagram; pets, trips to restaurants and artwork in progress, but as they have been hand drawn, more consideration has gone into them than a superficial photo would have.

Here are the final drawings that I used to make the 3 posters

Progress Update with Final Publication

As of today I have coloured two of the three sketches that I will be using for my final publication. Tomorrow I will complete the final one and make the Instagram style posters with them!

Completed Terrarium Bag Design

I have completed my design for the Terrarium bag competition. As we are only allowed two colours, I have chosen green and black. I have also created two designs to send off, one with the words 'AUB Illustration 2016' on it and one without it, just to give an idea of where the text can go.

Terrarium Tote Bag Design Initial Drawing

I will be entering a competition this week hosted by illustration technician Jenni Saarenkyla in which I have been asked to create a two-colour tote bag design based off of a Terrarium - a container in which plants live and grow.

For this competition, I have come up with an idea which I have named the 'green tea party'. I have completed my illustration for this which I will now go on to add colour to on photoshop.

Essay Supportive Piece Idea

I haven't had the easiest time trying to come up with an idea for an illustrative piece to support my essay, however I did come up with a great idea last night (better late than never!) which I think I may use.
As my essay is about artists using the social media site Instagram to post their work ang document their lives, I want to do a series of three posters in which I illustrate three Instagram posts using sketches. This piece would be a comment on how using a superficial social media site to document your work may be useful for artists.

The three sketches I have chosen to be the 'photos' in my posters are the following

Another Digitally Coloured Sketchbook Page

As I really liked how the first pages turned out, I decided to colour another of my pages from my sketchbook on Photoshop. Rather than colour all of the sketches, I focussed on just one (being the drawing I did of my car when it snowed) and created a scene around it that overflowed onto the other drawings.
I really like how my digitally coloured sketches look, it will be difficult for me to decide between this and gouache paint for my final outcome.

Quick Observational Painting!

My house at uni has been especially bright today, not only because it's a sunny day but one of my housemates left her door open and her curtains undrawn. Having a room at the back of the house, my room is usually in the shade and the view outside is relatively uninspiring. It was nice to see a different perspective, so I quickly grabbed my paints and did a quick painting of the view.

I did this painting with my Gouache paints and despite the fact that I did it rather hurriedly, I think it has turned out well. I like the cartoon-like style that has emerged from me painting in such a hurry.
